“It is the duty of the teacher to know what to teach,
why to teach and how much to teach.” – BKS Iyengar
We warmly welcome you to join our ongoing teacher education program at Adeline Yoga. “Progression of Teaching” is intended to help Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers prepare their practice and teaching for the next levels. We offer support to CIYT at any phase of their teaching and career exploration through mentorship and group programming.
“Progression of Teaching” is a cornerstone of our teacher support offerings. It is an ongoing series of weekend gathers for Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers wish to study the Jr 1 and 2 syllabi.
The 2018 program is divided into two-day sessions focusing on:
1) Practice of the asana and pranayama on the Junior Intermediate 1 and 2 syllabus
2) Teaching Tool Kit – Focus on observation, instruction, correction and developing your student base with maturity. Includes the art of adjustments and modifications, addressing structural issues and beginning to incorporate yoga philosophy within a class context.
3) Theory – in-depth focus on asana, sequencing, pranayama, anatomy and yoga philosophy
4) Self-study – practice sequences and homework assignments will connect you to the source material, your colleagues and teachers in between our meeting sessions
Our gatherings are devoted to the practice of Iyengar Yoga in all its facets. We will focus on our personal practice and developing our core Intermediate teaching skills including linkages between pose, moving deeper in our understanding and teaching, and evolving our students’ practice within a greater range of bodies and situations. Participants will get feedback on their teaching and gain confidence working with their students in a variety of situations.
“Progression of Teaching” is a forum from which to build enduring relationships with peers and teachers to support our personal growth within the Iyengar lineage. Participants who recently passed Intro II and long-time teachers are encouraged to join us.
Adeline Yoga offers five specific forums of deep study for teachers who wish to round out their studies. In addition to these gathers, you might consider:
- Attending our teacher’s practice sessions to learn about working with specific conditions
- Joining our monthly study group
- Attending Level 4 classes on Monday afternoons
- Engaging in mentorship with Heather Haxo Phillips or another qualified teacher on our faculty.
